Shades of pink at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel

The famous pink resort centered in Waikiki, The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, was the perfect location for Chihiro and Eric’s pink wedding.   Baby’s breath was the feature flower at the ceremony and it was truly spectacular!  Lush ombre pink baby’s breath designs created a grand entrance for the bride while white baby’s breath designs lined the aisle.  The bride met her groom-to-be in front of the ombre ceremony arch.

The centerpieces were vintage style arrangements designed in ornate gold vases. Candles were placed in delicate antique gold mercury votives that surround each centerpiece.

Ombre baby’s breath designs and candlelight surround the sweetheart table for a very lavish and romantic look.  Soft pink and amber lighting by Mood Event give the reception a lovely warm glow.

An Intern’s Perspective: Meet The Press

This past Sunday, Yvonne invited me to join her while she attended “Meet The Press” in honor of South Shore Paperie’s relocation. Naturally, I was ecstatic, as I don’t get to attend fun events all that frequently, and am more likely to be found around the playground crowd. Consequently, my husband was super annoyed that he wasn’t allowed to attend, so I of course rubbed it in his face and mentally picked out my cutest summery cocktail dress and wedges.

As an intern, I always feel obligated to let everyone know why I am with Yvonne. People always look confused and then their expression clears once I’ve introduced myself. I think it’s because I’m a little awkward around new people so was sticking close to Yvonne. Either way, it was amazing (and such a relief)  to see that I am not the only person completely obsessed with Yvonne’s work. Especially since this particular soiree was comprised of guests who all work in so many different aspects of the event industry. I met a photographer who was just starting out, and one who is well known in the bridal circuit, a beauty stylist, event decorators, floral designers, rental company representatives, wedding planners and event designers, bloggers, and of course the amazing artists behind Bradley + Lily Fine Stationery and South Shore Paperie. Honestly, I may have to speak to them about some stationery or invitations for some of my own future events. Their work is absolutely lovely. Cute little notecards with sweet letterpress script and gorgeous tropical invitations, perfectly accented with hibiscus or orchids for a trademark destination wedding. Oh, and the adorable baby shower invites and sassy little notecards to send to friends.  So awesome. It was so exciting to finally meet some of the great people Yvonne is always raving about. Sandra and Mal from Finishing Touch were so sweet and savvy, Nichole from Nichole Weddings and Events was so classy and refined, and Diana from Oahu Wedding was so entertaining and fun. I can only imagine how much fun it is to work with them on a regular basis, and Yvonne loves their work, so of course it was awesome to meet such skilled and professional people.

I have to say as I was quietly surveying the party while sipping my spritzer, I thought everyone seemed so stylish and chic. Catching bits of conversation from around the highboys, there seemed to also be a lot of networking going on. There were amazing refreshments, (the wine spritzers were fantastic!), and an amazing array of delicious treats. I tried a macaroon for the first time in my life and almost passed out it was so delicious.  I seriously loved all the floral arrangements and the rich colorful hues used in the decor to convey the rustic charm meets Great Gatsby Glam feel. Of course, not being used to attending these sort of parties, I was always making a ridiculous face while the photographer roved around, and almost ate cement when I awkwardly tripped into a pothole. However, I was able to listen in on some interesting upcoming event conversations and I was amazed at how great everyone gels together to make these lavish celebrations for their clients. We talked about an amazing event coming up at the Loulu Palm Estate that has been in the works for 14 months, and needless to say I am so excited to be a part of the finished product. I just know it will be absolutely breathtaking. We also have the wedding on Lana’i to look forward to, which will be an amazing adventure to say the least. All in all, I had a great time and I am very much hoping I will attend many more industry events in the future, as they are so great to get to know other vendors and to learn from their many experiences, good and bad. Until then, I am thoroughly enjoying my experience with Yvonne and her team and I will continue to share my insights.

A New Perspective: Our Intern Shares Her Thoughts

We are excited to introduce the newest member to our team… Maria Robinson! Maria has just joined our team as our intern, and what a perfect time as this is going to be a busy summer and an exciting fall full of sensational and glamorous events! Follow Maria through her journey as our intern as she shares her experiences on our blog.

Becoming an intern for a company can give you the step up you need for your own future endeavors. Coming from a diverse background of odd jobs, I had an idea of what to expect, but nothing could have prepared me for the incredible experience I have had so far. Working at Yvonne Design has been a dream come true. After following her breathtaking work and viewing her ever increasing and impressive portfolio, I finally managed to pluck up the courage to apply for an internship. Though I have hardly had any experience in floral design, I have worked in the hospitality and entertainment industry and I have always had a passion for making events unique and special. It paid off. I don’t think I have ever been so nervous. It was like meeting a celebrity and my mentor all rolled into one. Days later, when I started to think she had forgotten about me and chosen someone else, I got an e-mail asking if I’d like the position. I screamed and needless to say was elated. The opportunity to work with such an incredible person? Yes please! So I started small. I worked at the beautiful Aulani Disney Resort on small weddings, setting up arches and beautiful arrangements. Little by little, I learned more and more. Setting centerpieces on tables for just the right look. Building canopies with flowy material for an ethereal and romantic wedding ceremony. Modern reception furniture for added sophistication. Twinkling lights over a checkered and polished dance floor. Stunning amounts of flowers in every shade imaginable. It’s like a dream. Or a fairytale. You might think it’s a movie set, or a magazine ad. I don’t think I could have ever prepared myself for such an incredible experience. Just thinking back to the last month alone, the Disney Resort, beautiful Moli’i Gardens, Lanikuhonua, The Modern Honolulu..and Yvonne and her team take it all in stride. I marvel at her grace and precision. It’s really no wonder she is so incredibly successful. As her employee, Rob, would say, “You’ll learn a lot from her. She has her own style. She’s very precise. She’s really amazing.” I’d have to agree, and although some would view it as dull or mundane, I love to learn new flower names. Or research new pieces for a specific wedding’s decor. Learn about client and vendor etiquette. It’s like every day, I have a new page in my future’s handbook. I dream of achieving the kind of success Yvonne and her husband, Alex, have accomplished with Mood Events and Yvonne Design. I think it’s incredible that they have so many satisfied clients who are blown away by the quality and standards of their work. I know that kind of achievement isn’t accomplished overnight, but having such an amazing example of accomplishment, is plenty of motivation for me. I am so excited for all the new and upcoming opportunities to work with Yvonne and her team, such as the Ritz-Carlton Residences Luxury Party, a fabulously glamorous wedding at Laniakea, and an amazing event on our neighbor island of Lana’i, at the beautiful Four Seasons Lodge at Koele! That’s just in the next few months alone! This has to be one of the most special and incredible opportunities of my life and I am so looking forward for all that is to come!
